Fourths on for a much need win

The skipper won the toss and chose to bowl, unsurprisingly. Nelly and our new recruit Faiz opened up and bowled superbly well keeping the run rate down. The breakthrough came when Faiz moved the skipper in close and he took an easy catch at short extra cover. Faiz then struck again with Barry taking a simple catch at square leg.

Our new keeper, Anish, was also trying to get into the game and nearly took a superb diving catch but the ball popped out when he hit the ground. With Lewis giving the batsmen some shocking banter from behind the stumps, we were all expecting him to be ready to go. After the sledging a nice catch went straight to him at second slip but unfortunately it went down, which was particularly amusing for the batsmen he had been going at!!! Nevertheless Nelly joined the party and got the guy shortly after with Cam taking a sold catch.

Egerton's stand in skipper was the only one that looked like playing properly and he was beginning to build a score, pouncing on anything bowled short. Adam came on after Faiz and bowled a tight spell. Lewis had two overs but came off due to lack of spikes which gave Karrar his senior bowling debut. He showed the Niffy lads what he could do and claimed his first wicket in his fourth over.

Alan Ayres, playing his first game for a couple of years was thrown the ball and bowled a couple of decent overs before Nelly came back in to get the wickets flowing. He claimed two including a nice caught an bowled. Cam Plant, who was also playing his first game for a while, came on and bowled a tidy spell and got the key wicket of G Tyler caught and bowled. He bowled good lines and just took the pace off it which did the trick.

So, with Neil and Faiz back on, the Niffy were feeling confident that they could bowl the opposition out but in the 40th over with the score on 92 for 7, the rain came down and the rest, as they say was history.

This was a great bowling effort by the Niffy and it looked liked 25 points could have been in the bag if it was not for the rain! Still, the boys enjoyed a top Gurney tea.

So, with the fourths now having a week off (as the game against Blaby has been rearranged) the lads can get some practice in ready for a tough
