Wagstaff, Page M and Looms seal final victory.

The final weekend of a long and successful season was greeted by brilliant sunshine. Leicester Banks the opposition. The bankers forfeiting the opening game of the season to the home skippers disgust. The bankers captain calling wrong. Home team wasting no time in asking to have a bat.

Smith and Fleetwood to open. Both men averaging over 40 for the year. Surely with the pitch looking so good the openers would cash in. To everybody’s shock Smith out in the 1st over. Wagstaff racing out to the crease. Hungry for runs. Fleetwood LBW. 18 for 2. 10 overs. Page M in next. A partnership required. Steady stuff to begin. Drinks taken at 15 overs. 37 for 2.

Both batsmen timing the ball well. Slowly the boundaries were found with singles taken to rotate the strike. Wagstaff passing 50 just before drinks taken at 30 overs. 95 for 2. Time to punish these banking bowlers. Page M racing away after drinks. Using his feet well to drive straight. Wagstaff going through the gears. Balls crashing into the fence.

Wagstaff closing in on 3 figures. A pint of salt water called for. A boundary to Wagstaff followed by celebrations. 100. Both batsmen now in full flow. Page M bowled for a delightful 78. A partnership of 158. Fantastic to watch.

Muggleton in and out. Page D now with Wagstaff. Both pushing on. Partnership of 45 ending with Page D bowled. Innings closing on 229. Wagstaff a masterful 120no.

Time to enjoy a lovely spread. This weeks tea supplied by Kelly. Nice cheesecake.

Time to bowl the bankers out. Rowe and Muggleton with new ball. A flying start for the away side. Good aggressive batting 61 without loss 10 overs. Both bowlers removed with pace off now into the attack. Wale and Page S. Drinks taken 86 without loss 15 overs.

A debrief with senior players and another bowling change. Looms replacing Wale. Old timers Page S and Looms looking to dry the runs up. Sameeha out. Caught by Wale, Looms the bowler. 95 for 1. 95 for 2. Pankesh caught Rowe bowled Looms. 99 for 3. Baxter run out without facing. Page S doing very well in his follow through.

101 for 4. Lewin LBW to looms. 103 for 5. Patel caught Muggleton. Looms again the bowler. The screw now being turned. Page S at his miserly best. Looms unlucky not to claim more wickets. 2 drops behind the stumps in quick succession. Looms removed after 9 overs replaced by Rowe. Page S completing his 12 overs for only 29 runs. Waddington into the attack.

Waddington removing Dinesh caught Page M. 153 for 5. Lanil removed by the same combination. 177 for 6. 38 overs bowled. Joseph LBW to Waddington. 187 for 8. Rowe and Waddington bowling the final overs off the session. The bankers falling short on 202 for 8.

Victory in the final game and runners up. Jugs, bottles, music and curry enjoyed by all. Congratulations and thank you everybody who has played for the 2s this year.
