Hendry and Page headline

On a fresh April afternoon Niffy 2s arrived at the Calypso capital in fine spirits. From the car park the pitch appeared to look ok. But sadly on closer inspection it looked nothing like the hallowed turf of Bassett Ave. With the toss secured the carnival loving cricketers were Inserted.

With the new ball taken by Hawker and Looms the breakthrough was made by Joey bowling the opener in the 7th over. The skipper then claimed 2 victims in 1 over both caught behind the wicket by keeper Hendry. Patel and Boyce then batted well riding their luck and slapping the bad ball to the rope. Entering the fray next was Mcdonald replacing Hawker. Line and length was the order of the day. But with the wind in his face Matt seemed to favour bowling the ball closer to his own feet than the batsmans. With 5 balls bowled and the skipper in his ear the bowler then produced a wonderful slower ball bouncer which Patel smacked towards point. Lucky for the 2s Smith was waiting and pulled off a fine diving catch. Relief all round as Patel was looking good.

With drinks taken Looms finished off a rather long spell by bowling Sattar. With Mcdonald withdrawn from the attack enter the youth and experience. Wale and Page S. With the run rate now under control and Simon finding his range the final 4 wickets fell. Good catches by Hawker, Popplewell, Wagstaff and a stumping by Hendry.

A decent bowling and fielding performance given the conditions. 130 looking a total the 2s should be capable of chasing but with plenty of sideways movement and indifferent bounce on offer the task would be a hard one. With a good tea digested and an orderly line forming at the door of the toilet Smith and Martin opened.

A steady partnership of 23 ending with the Chairman missing timing a pull. Garrard arrived and looked in good touch even if he couldnt see through his grill. Garrard was then undone by a a fine legcutter from Ishmail. Enter keeper batsman. With all his experience called upon Hendry began a match winning innings. With Martin and Wagstaff being dismissed Popplewell joined Hendry and added the highest partnership of the innings 24. With Popplewell removed Mcdonald was the incoming batter. Keen to make up for some indifferent bowling Mcdonald applied himself well. With man of the match Hendry being dismissed for a hard earned 50 and only 16 required Hawker was promoted to run hard with Mcdonald. This worked a treat with 2s and 3s being taken. With victory secured and pats on the back all round a fun day was ended in the Caribbean club house in good spirits.
