lack of discipline costly

on a very green wicket @ Dunton the Niffy skipper called correctly and put the host's into bat, beforehand we all knew that the wicket of the the Dunton skipper Dax Miller was always going to be key but unfortunately this did not happen but oh so nearly, Yorkie was unlucky the little knick off Millers bat didn''t stick in his gloves and this proved to be costly as Dax once again returned 3 figures against the niffy.
In fact the Niffy team let this one slip literally as with 10 overs remaining Dunton were on 135-4 but with catches being put down and some big shots being played (even with eyes shut) Dunton ended on 232-5, a disappointing end for the Niffy team we lost our discipline at times which hasn't happened so far this season so there was many a frustrated face @ tea.
We started poorly with the bat badger being unlucky when trying to pull could only pick out the fielder for nought, this bought Big Willie to the crease and for the next 8 overs things were tense and Willie had a couple of escape's especially when the Dunton keeper started celebrating a caught behind before the ball had hit his gloves (got to catch em to claim em!!!).Yorkie at the other end was playing his usual swash buckling style trying to un-nerve the bowlers with his attempted big shots, Yorkie was eventually caught trying to hit over the top leaving the Niffy on 31-2, In came happy meal and finally the Niffy batsmen started to gain confidence and between them Willie and Happy Meal put some runs on the board, but just as things looked to be improving Happy Meal in an attempt to up the run rate was bowled for a well played 18 more importantly was the 59 run partnership which seemed to calm the team's nerves, Hunty came and went cheaply bringing the chairman to the crease and again another useful partnership took place before once again when trying to increase the run rate pops was bowled for a well played 25 (51 run partnership) with the niffy needing 90 off 10 overs the hopw was the big hitting muggle could get the Niffy within touching distance but it wasn't to be as Tom struggled to time the ball. Big Willie was caught for 73 again trying to increase the run rate, Big Willie made the most of the chances he gave to the Dunton Side his runs were invaluable on the day also the fact he was involved in 2 partnerships which the Niffy would not lose the game. When Muggle was bowled this got Ash and the Skipper at the crease and with the intent of just getting as many as they could without losing their wicket this they did superbly scoring 47 off the last 6 overs getting the Niffy to over 200 to claim additional draw points.
A game which definately had a case of what might have been for both sides if the catches were taken, We go again next week!!
