Seconds claim their first win of the season

On a lovely sunny morning, the Skipper won the toss and elected to bowl. Sharpey and Karl opened up. The skipper claimed the first wicket in the fourth over with Hayden taking a solid catch at point.

After this, Wigston Town got their heads down and looked to smash the ball to all parts. With a very small boundary , the home side took advantage of any wayward bowling and soon went onto 46 from 10 overs. Hayden entered the fray in the 14th over and claimed a wicket with his final ball of the over. Next over Ajmal claimed his first Niffy wicket with Will taking a simple catch behind. Well done Ajmal.

This didn't slow Wigston as by the time we got to drinks, they were on 114 for 3 from 22 overs. The home side looked like they were on for a very good score, however James Hunt had other ideas. James and Hayden bowled 12 overs each on the bounce and showed what a good bowling partnership can do. They both bowled good lines and built up a serious amount of pressure, dried up the runs and James took four wickets too!! So, from Wigston looking like they were going to fly past 200, the Niffy kept them down to 167 from 45 overs which was brilliant. James went for just 13 from his 12 overs and was absolutely quality with the ball.

It should be noted that Will's glove work behind the stumps was tremendous. Will claimed a catch and two stumpings. He put real pressure on the batsmen standing up when he could and any sniff of a stumping, he was on it. Ronald also claimed a wicket in the 42nd over with Smig taking a good catch. Karl also claimed his second of the day in the last over.

So, in light of the footy, the boys went straight out without any tea!!! Gardner and Badge got the boys off to a great start. Tom was punishing anything short and smashing it to the boundary. Badge chipped one in the tenth over after the ball got stuck in the pitch. Badge made 20 and looked in good form. Smig and Tom put on 31 before Smig was bowled. Will then went for a golden and Hayden contributed 2 before he was bowled. Gardner was still going strong though and keeping the score ticking on. He went to his 50 with a 6!

In the 24th over, Tom tried to smash another but did not get hold of it and was caught in the deep (at the second attempt) for a well played 65. This left Matt and James to steer the Niffy ship home. The young pair looked solid and batted well very. They did not look to do anything stupid, just put away the bad balls and keep the pressure on the home side. The pair put on 74 and claimed the Niffy their first win in the 42nd over.

This was a great performance by the boys. After things looked like they were going badly, the bowlers stepped up to the plate and built the pressure which kept Wigston's total down. Tom then gave the Niffy a platform and some sensible batting from James and Ronald brought the game home. The Niffy are without the skipper next week whilst he is away on his jollys so Badge and Smig will take charge and look to claim another win in the skippers absence.
