Beauty, style and grace in abundance at Bassett Ave

Spectators at Bassett Ave are used to seeing beauty, style and grace, and today was no different. The 2nd team have never looked in finer form. Beautiful lines, stunning shots and just general FITness on show. Its no wonder we are considering charging on the gate to see such fine specialmens. Still, that's enough about the pre-match photo shoot. (which Spenno was trying to turn into a porno shoot)
Anyway, i would like to say thats where the poncing around finished, but unfortunately it wasnt.
a ragged opening spell saw Harborough race through to 70 odd off 10 overs, and was a combined spell from Karl, Hayden and Gibbo that dragged us back into the game. Karl started the fight back, bowling the free scoring Bland, with Liam then getting the other opened well stumped with a ball that did just enough to beat the advancing Kenny. Hayden down the other end was bowling very tightly, and at time bowled with real pace and was unlucky not to get a wicket.
It was Liam again who made the next breakthrough, breaking a useful partnership having Simpson caught at midwicket by Smig. yes it was straight at you, and no it wasnt nailed.
it was then the returning opening bowlers who were next to chip in with wickets. Joe bowling the dangerous Bott, before Ash bowled the other Bott and Joe bowled Hall. throw in a suicidal run out and restricting them to 226 wasnt a bad effort, but a better fielding effort alone could have saved us 25 runs.
Then it was over to the batsmen. Ash (x2) anyway. Ash Hallam was superb. Although he took some time getting used to the pace of J.Bott, as soon as he was settled, the runs started to flow. Cover drives, cuts, pulls and lofted straight drives flowed from the bat early on, before flicking a couple of sixes over deep backward square leg. Shot of the day came in what was to be the final over, when he smashed a 6 over long on straight onto the bonnet of coach John Smith's car, adding value to it in the process.
Support for Ash was in short supply, with only Smig scoring runs early on, before Ash Willan joined him at 7 down. Their partnership of over 90 was obviously the match winning partnership, and there were some lovely cover drives from Ash Willan, but the final word must go to Ash Hallam. A superb batting performance.
