Rain reduced match run chase ends just short

When top of the table Melton failed to show on time due to an accident the acting skip Smig claimed the toss and asked Melton to bat first, But then the rain arrived reducing the game to 25 overs a side. Both sides started well but then the Niffy got on top as first Matty deceived the opener and Waggy claimed a double wicket maiden over. Melton's overseas player Worsnop then produced a partnership just shy of 50 with stevenson putting Melton back in the driving seat and with 10 overs remaining Melton looked positioned to put on a good total but the Niffy bowlers had other ideas. New addition Rich Sharpe Joey Matty and Waggy were superb in the last 10 overs only conceding 27 runs, Joey claimed the scalp of Worsnop and just to top it off the final over only went for 1 run of waggy, a great effort equally backed up in the field with Dan being unlucky not to got the decision on a run out with a throw from the boundary hitting the only stump he could see!.So with 108 the total to get the Niffy got off to a bad start losing there first 3 wickets for only 18 runs. This men't uncle and nephew were at the crease and Benny looked in great form again until he was caught for 16 being Dan to the crease and it was his partnership with Rich that got the Niffy well and truly into the game in the 7 overs that there were together they scored 49 runs until Dan went back to one and hit his wicket, Tom sanders went to the crease and started with aggressive intent and with one over to go the Niffy needed 8 to win but unfortunately Rich was caught on the boundary off the second ball in the last over and Tom couldn't find the blows to win Niffy the game. This thou produced a fine game of cricket played in good spirit and the Niffy team can hold there heads high and be proud of the way that they pushed the leaders all the way.
