Solid performance

On a cold wet day with covers being blown around the ground providing more jobs than usual for the lads the Thorpe skipper called wrong and the skip asked them to bat on a wicket which was more like an illston abey wicket at one end, Thorpe started slowly scoring at less than 3 an over, the skip (having to bowl early because of joey straining a Muscle????) asked his spin king Gibbo to have a bowl into the stiff breeze causing many an eyebrow to be raised which was totally justified when Gibbo broke up the opening partnership with his very first ball then going to take 2 more wickets within his first 2 overs, with Thorpe struggling with the spinners Benny joined the attack to continue the containing job, bowling neat and tidy he claimed his reward taking a caught and bowled, the skip replaced Gibbo taking 2 quick wickets putting the visitors firmly on the back foot Finally ending the 40 over innings on a low total of 115-7.
After another rain break the niffy were faced with getting the winning total off 36 overs, Chaz and Willy set about the Thorpe attack starting steadily and then stepping up the pace with Chaz playing some graceful shots and Willy looking solid as usual,After the 20 over mark the niffy were well in front of Thorpe's score and Chaz informing the scorers he was on 51 not 49!!. That proved to be chaz's downfall being caught to a rain affected ball (according to chaz),This allowed Si to the crease and with the rain clouds gathering he and Willy put the game to bed not allowing thorpe to score any further points,Willy ended on a well played 37 not out to continue his good run with the bat.
