Fine 108* by Hickman on disappointing day for the 1s.

After glorious weather throughout the week it seemed only right for the game to be delayed due to rain and eventually leading to a 34 over per side match. With Thorpe Arnold winning the toss, Countesthorpe were inserted in tricky conditions.

Will and Gaz looked in good touch and saw the side achieve the first milestone (passing 7) after just 1.1 overs but shortly after Will was dubiously adjudged caught behind. Simon joined Gaz at the crease and was pumped up, hitting a magnificent 6 off Pegg before being held at deep square leg off Hickman for 12.

Gaz batted bravely against Hickman but with 3 balls left of his spell he was bowled for a well batted (and battled) 21. Ed and Kumar steadied the ship with Ed going for a well crafted 22 and again showing what an asset he will e for the 1s for many years to come. Kumar conservatively reached 31 before holding out and neither Thorpe nor Rowe were able to crank up the run rate and support Tyler. Muggle however had other ideas and smoked two huge sixes before being bowled last ball of the innings for a valuable 24. Tyler unbeaten on 22 and again showing a maturity belying his youth.

After a terrific Hawker tea Countesthorpe knew early wickets were in order but sadly Thorpe and Rowe struggled for rhythm and Hickman in particular was harsh on anything loose. Toon and Joey joined the attack and Joey had Starkey LBW before getting Pollard well caught by Will. Hickman brought up his century and saw Thorpe Arnold home comfortably in 23.2 overs. Sadly and for the first time this season, the 1s were flat in the field and need to remember the enjoyment factor for next weekend. We've proved competitive and played our best cricket when we've enjoyed ourselves so smiling faces all round next weekend and a first away win of the season at Shepshed to put some pressure on the teams above.
