Ibstock tested in game that got away

In a game reduced to 37 overs per side Gaz started with gusto whacking 7 boundaries in his 29 before nicking to the keeper. Unfortunately Ben and Thorpey had already done the same and when Tommy was bowled it was a bit of a crisis. However young Will was not to be phased and with the skipper they retrieved the situation adding 38 in good time.

Will was disappointed to hit a full toss to mid on for a good 20 which bought in Craig, who after a difficult start suddenly started to find his range. The skipper was also finding that elusive form and after a cautious start smashed a couple of maximums into the protective netting. Craig set his sights on spinner Sharp who went the distance 3 times the last one being a monster.

The partnership reached 76 from 10 overs which enabled C'thorpe to finish on a respectable 175-5 In reply Ibstock started cautiously until a couple of lose overs gave them momentum. Chances came and went as both openers were dropped. Craig eventually enticed the prolific Sharp to cut to point and Ben took a good catch.

Tom Oliver marched on hitting 4 big 6's supported by Mark Harrison who then edged to Ben off Thorpey. Toony entered the attack and soon had Smith stumped as Ibstock started to wobble. Oliver lost patience and reverse swept Toony to Smig and Poole was bowled again Toony the wicket taker.

5 down and 35 needed, C'thorpe were still in with a chance but Joe Finch hit out with good effect just clearing Ben on the mid wicket boundary, another maximum into the school and Ibstock were just about home. Finch then hit a straight boundary as the field closed in with 7 balls remaining, just about giving him the MOM ahead of Oliver. What could have been!!
