Season's top score in vain

A typical classy knock by Gaz allowed a final 10 over thrash which Craig and Luke made the most of. Tommy and Gaz opened up with a partnership of 64 before Tommy was caught in 3 minds (not for the first time!) and holed out. Gaz lofted one that nearly went for 6 in the process letting the cat out of the bag that there was nothing riding on the game! Astute minds might have realised that earlier as Lutterworth gave everyone a bowl, including the keeper!

Gaz departed for 77 after a mid innings collapse saw 4 wickets fall for 30 Firstly Craig with a belligerent 60 and then Luke with a season's best 39 boosted the total well passed 250 although Luke still hasn't quite mastered the pull shot! Thorpey arrived at the crease for the last over and as usual entertained the crowd, hitting keeper Dave Fradley for 2 inventive boundaries!

In reply Luke struck early as Jason Cader swiped too soon, Thorpey had Ben Watson caught behind as Lutterworth slumped, however it hadn't gone unnoticed that they had reversed the batting order! Jarred Pickering then played a top knock assisted by a cultured 66 from young Joe Hack. (Not the best name for an aspiring professional golfer!) The pair added 163 putting Lutts in pole position.

Craig nipped out Hack and Sales, whilst Ben Sharpe bowled Damian Baxter and had Fradley caught as Lutts wobbled. Skipper Sharpey then pulled off a great catch, high above his head as Pickering departed for a fine 98 With 8 wickets down and 40 still needed C'thorpe should have been favourites, but the 9 ans 10 of Lutterworth both played in the County cup final the previous week and it showed. Masic and Kaylm in particular wasted no time as they reached the 265 target with 9 balls to spare.

A typical end of season game with nothing riding on it, but it was good to see 3 spinners operating for C'thorpe, all on the right side of the age of 30 also 2 high quality wicket keepers in the ranks for when Spenno is otherwise engaged. Tommy took 2 neat catches at the top of the innings and when Luke took over the gloves, nothing was getting by and to cap a good day, those large mitts claimed 2 catches standing up to Craig, a fitting finale for the departing captain, who again has done a fine job.
