After collapsing to 35-7 on a wicket giving the bowlers a bit of assistance, Smig and Toony battled hard to try and save the firsts from an embarrassing defeat. Between them they added 68 for the 8th wicket, before Toony departed for a battling 24. By this stage however one batting point had been secured, which looked highly unlikely when the pair came together. Smig who had dominated the innings then missed a straight one from Richard Durose to depart for a high quality 47 including 8 boundaries. With overs running out Spenno was bowled looking to improvise as the innings came to an end on 115
Thorpey tried everything he knew, but still failed to get a wicket ( how much does he know!) however he did have the batsmen in knots with his unique brand of swing and surprise! culminating with the opener inside edging and just missing the stumps for the 15th consecutive week!
Gaz nipped out Durose and Craig trapped Doug Crowley bang in front as a bowling point was gained. Toony replaced the unlucky Thorpey and managed to extract some turn as Milan Shah looked all at sea. In frustration Shah had a dart at Toony and with the ball going skyward it was Ash Hallam who made the call and took a great diving catch close to the ground. The Newberry bros then saw Ivanhoe home with a few big hits, to give them a deserved 7 wicket win.
End of season apathy must not be allowed to set in and next week a trip to struggling Billesdon gives the lads the perfect opportunity to put things right.
