Away win and a double versus Carillon

After a sloppy opening which included 5 wides!! a full toss and some slow chasing, giving Loughborough Carillon a flying start, the Countesthorpe attack found a some rhythm and bit by bit they started to gain some measure of control. Luke bowled a great first spell going for just 1 an over, dismissing Freeman-Langford, caught behind whilst Thorpey (officially the unluckiest bowler on the planet!) toiled away on a hot day without reward.

Toony joined the attack and deceived Venekar in the air and Tommy did the rest. Grobbler was then run out after smart fielding from Sy and Harland found Dave at deep square to give Toony his 2nd wicket. As Carillon tried to increase the rate Toony chipped away eventually claiming an excellent "feifer" with the last ball of the innings. It could have been so much better with at least 3 chances hitting the deck

In reply Tommy batted beautifully until missing an off break from Desai, Craig put us above the rate with 4 consecutive boundaries off Grobbler, before the rain. Patel then produced a fine running catch to send Craig back to the pavilion for a hard hitting 34. With the game reduced to 42 overs, the Sharpe brothers needed to push on and they did it in fine style. Dave the older smacked Desai for a big maximum, whilst Ben the younger rotated the strike with skill. Another rain break reduced the innings to 38 overs and when Ben was bowled things got a bit panicky!

Smig middled a couple before missing a straight one, Luke holed out at mid on and Thorpey perished, top edging a pull. With 5 needed from the last over Sy survived a big shout, before nudging a single. Dave then won the game with a clip to mid wicket with 2 balls remaining, finishing on 61 not out, including 2 big sixes. 25 valuable points in a successful day fro the club that resulted in another happy hour!!
