30 point haul in rain affected game

Losing the toss was always likely to be bad news and after 6 over Countesthorpe were on the brink of a disaster being reduced to 17-3 However Dave Sharpe joined Sy Garrard and between them started to repair the damage. On a greenish wicket the ball was doing just enough to worry the batsmen, but Sharpey soon found a method to cope, which consisted of blocking the good ball and smashing the bad one to the boundary.

Sy returning from injury, started as though he had never been away, middling everything, but finding the fielders, however after a difficult spell against the spinner, a change of tactic brought success when he hit the ball where there were no fielders, which in this case was in the allotments at square leg.

Dave reached a well deserved 50 with a thumping boundary and soon after the 100 partnership was reached. It was Sy's turn to reach 50 as the run rate increased. Dave was eventually caught for a high quality 64. Craig was promoted up the order and soon found the boundary, however Sy was run out going for a 2nd in what looked a tight call, A top inning form the former skipper which included 6 fours and a maximum. A couple more wickets were lost in the final overs but a score of 183 for 7 in a game reduced to 35 overs was a fine achievement.

Harrison started like a train for Loughborough Carillon, but Thorpey soon accounted for Keshwala well held by Craig at slip. Trimmingham joined Harrison and as the score passed 90 looked to be winning the game for Carillon. However up stepped Craig, bowling Harrison for a hard hit 57 Soon after Trimmingham holed out to a juggling Thorpey at mid on as a bit of panic set in.

Skipper Luke returned to the attack and with his first ball bowled Gill, Kyle Grobler played a couple of big shots but then needlessly swiped across the line and Craig claimed his 3rd wicket. Joe Hawker then produced a stunning throw from the boundary to run out Harland who had turned for a risky 2nd and thoughts turned to a Countesthorpe win. Freeman-Langford hit a couple of boundaries before perishing to Luke, Kartik holed out, caught by Ben and then Craig wrapped up the innings with 2 in 2 to finish on a match winning 6-34 from 7.2 overs. A great game of cricket and credit to Loughborough Carillon who played the game in the right spirit
