Solid batting ensures target is reached

A good toss to win and Wade had Bailey well held at deep square in the first over. Dean Scaysbrook counter attacked with his first ten scoring shots all boundaries. After a rain break the game was reduced to 35 overs per side. Overseas player Ben Sunshine was well held by Eben off Luke for 15 but runs were flowing as Scaysbrook reached 50

Thorpy entered the fray and after a wayward first over soon had Dan Brown and Steve Armson back in the pavilion both bowled. Bennett and David Wood were then caught behind by Badge as Thorpy removed Newtown's middle order finishing with 4-37. Scaysbrook powered on reaching his century from only 69 balls before Ash had him caught by Badge

John Dale ended the Newtown inning with some lusty blows and Newtown finished on an above par score of 219-9 in their allotted 35 overs

Eben and Gaz opened cautiously against some good bowling particularly from Dale as only 25 came from the first 10 overs, however the change bowlers then went for 60 from the next 6 as Eben got into his stride. The partnership yielded 97 before Eben was caught at deep square hooking for a good 48. Wade got a good one from Nick Platt and was beaten on the outside edge, but Dave Sharpe joined Gaz.

Woods then got one through Gaz's defences and the animated bowler pointed the way back to the pavilion, in a show of fast bowler aggression. Sy joined Dave in the match winning partnership adding 78 in just 9 over both hitting maximums, sadly both perished just before the end for 45 and 49 respectively. Luke and the finisher Hayden then took over and knocked off the remaining runs in Wood's next over both finding the boundary as the speedster finished with 2-58 An excellent win and one that should boost confidence for the final run in
