Bad day all round as Countesthorpe lose by 72 runs

The day started promisingly with Ash winning the toss and asking Ashby to bat on a wicket damp from overnight and early morning rain. Ash was back to his best bowling straight through and taking 2-29 Wade was accuracy personified with a spell which included 7 consecutive maidens as Ashby struggled to 47-2 from 22 overs. Thorpy bowled Dismore, but it was Ashby number 5 John Adcock who became the difference between the sides. Adcock plundered 74 not out, with support form Jenkinson and Ellis who both reached 20 as Ashby added 130 in the final 20 overs.

In reply Luke set about Sykes and at 39 without loss things look ok, but then the wheels fell off and everything that could go wrong did!! Luke skied a longhop to cover, Smig went 2nd ball then 2 big decisions effectively cost C'thorpe the match, Jamo was given LBW when everyone bar one heard wood on ball and the Wade was run out after a direct hit from that man Adcock.

Thorpy was batting well with Jonny until a quick single saw Thorpy hit by the returning throw, forcing him from the pitch retired hurt. Ash was caught off a double rebound at 2nd slip so Thorpy returned batting with one hand. Jack and Thorpy secured a batting point before the umpire got in on the act again, sending Jack on his way. 105 all out and whilst Murphy's law applied, it could not disguise the fact that we gave away too many runs in the final 20 overs and did not apply ourselves in the batting chase. Next weeks match V Thorpe Arnold is now a big game in how the season will pan out
