After turning up an hour and a half early Niffy remained in high spirits, eating pizza, drinking fanta and attempting the land the ball on the roof of the nets from 50/60 yards away. Niffy batted first and did well. Sunday star Sean Naylor opened with Ben Sharpe and together they put on 80 runs. Sean Naylor amassed 31 runs while Ben Sharpe (WK for the day) grabbed himself 45. Will Blockley (WK) was unfortunately caught for 5. Joe Thorpe then entered the frame and during the 20 overs he was at the crease for, he smashed a wonderful 51 runs, during which time he formed a strong partnership with Andy Bullen (before running himself out). Youngsters Oli Lunn and Joe Naylor both hit boundaries and Michael Megginson (WK) smashed 2 sixes in the final few overs to bring Niffy to a total of 193-7.

After tea Niffy went out to field and this is when the Wicket Keepers really proved their worth! Good bowling from Matt Sharpe saw Michael Megginson take a good catch low down at gully, while good bowling from Tom Muggleton from the other end found the edge and saw Ben Sharpe take the catch in his (borrowed) gloves. Tom also got a run out although credit to Ben Sharpe for taking the ball and bails cleanly from not the best throw in the world. Matt Sharpe clean bowled the next two batsmen and Oli Lunn also demolished the batsman's wicket. Joe Naylor also took a wicket, regular keeper Will Blockley taking a superb and spectacular catch at silly mid off, diving low to his right taking it one handed! Will Blockley and Michael Megginson then came onto bowl, Will Blockley piled on the pressure with his unorthodox spin bowling while Michael Megginson was smashed around in his first over but recovered to take 2 wickets. Joe Thorpe finally ended the days play, bowling the number 11 but only after he had been played all around the ground by the 70-year-old.

A brilliant game enjoyed by all players and spectators, a great team effort even if the writer of this match report is slightly biased. Furthermore a very good win for Niffy, on to next week...
