On Sunday, the runs kept on flowing as our friendly side Leicester Teachers Countesthorpe broke a record of their own. Taking on the nomadic Coventry Ramblers the side came away with a winning draw.
Having chosen to bat, and having slipped to 52-4 they looked on course for a below par score. However James Waddington and Dale Stean combined to add a club record 5th wicket partnership of 173, breaking the previous record of 138 set by Stewart Gamble and Mike Bull in 2000 v Wigston St. James. Jim also completed his century making 118 including 7 sixes, Dale made a gritty 82 as they posted 264-9 off 42 overs.
In reply Coventry Ramblers batted steadily, and bar a middle order wobble when Tom Phipps took 4-39, with 3 catches at square leg, they finished on 176-6 securing a well earned draw.
We also had our development team in action. A great achievement to have 2 senior sides out, captained by local radio celebrity Georgia Inkley, made the short trip to Cosby and having chosen to bat first posted 195-7 from their 30 overs. Pick of the bowlers was U13s Lewis Simkin taking 3-27.
In reply the side battled to a draw as they made 78-9, with another U13 Bobby Shaw top scoring with 16. Although the team came well short, it was an opportunity for the youngsters, many of whom playing their first games of senior cricket, to learn the art of batting time and spending time in the middle.
To round off the weekend, the ladies softball side travelled to Oakham. The ladies bowled first, with Oakham making 142-3 (Net score 327), Rebecca Dunford the pick of the bowlers with 2-7.
In reply, off their 16 overs Countesthorpe were 91-9 (Net score 246) with all ladies chipping in with the bat as they unfortunately came up short in the run chase.
Good luck to all our teams again this weekend, and hopefully the wet weather stays away!
