On a glorious day at Bassett Avenue, stand in skipper Toony won the toss and batted on what at first inspection looked a road placed on the end of the square.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with some indifferent bounce on the odd occasion and Gaz again being triggered by one of the umpires as well as tight bowling from Baz Tailor who claimed Five Wickets in his 12 over spell. As birthday boy Ted cruised into the ground, Happy 99th by the way, the opening line of ‘is that it’ as he gazed at the scoreboard, was felt by all players.
Craig hung around and pushed the score towards the three figures. With new signing Joe Hawker promoted to number 11 in the order, in Toony’s Only positive action of the day, gave Joe ‘The Licence’ to go big! The Fatso took over as Hawker planted spinner Luke Mitchell into Willoughby and proceeded to play a couple more glorious shots to scramble the Niffy to 118-10.
A sublime Anthony tea was devoured and Countesthorpe’s opening attack of Rowe and Muggleton set about the task of rescuing the team. As overs ticked away, both bowled good lines and two wickets for Tom were just reward. Toony came on, bowled dreadfully and duly ‘got the arse’ at fine leg whilst Hawker and Macca continued. Hawker claimed a wicket with another that dribbled along the floor.
Ultimately, out played in all three aspects. Luckily, J.Thorpe returns next week. Thanks to Richard for taking over from Baz in the score box - most appreciated.
We go again next week at Egerton Park
