When the Ivanhoe have all their stars available for first team cricket their 2nds become a strong unit as well. Thorpey and Rich dismissed the openers Phil and Matt Twigg, but Alex Carrie and Rich Newberry soon recovered the position. Carrie timed the ball to the boundary and Newberry was the rock around which the innings was built. Carrie raced to a classy 40 before Dan pulled off a quick stumping as Carrie wandered. Skipper Yeow found the boundary regularly early on before James bowled him for a quickfire 38
Still the batsmen came and Josephs joined in the fun, hitting a fine 39 off only 27 balls, Malik Khan and Lafferty all hit out to take the score to an imposing 284-8
Naill Lafferty opened the attack with accuracy, with former first teamer Imran Khan also giving little away. Gaz went LBW and Sy got a good one nipping back through then gate. James was adjudged LBW although the bruising on his thigh suggested the umpire may have been a bit keen. Malik joined the attack with immediate success as Craig and Matt departed.
At last a stand with Will Buckley and Dan Lever adding 41 before both perished Thorpey meant business finding the middle with some crisp shots, the tail wagged to good effect with Rich, Joe and Thorpey all reaching double figures, however 146 ao left the side well short of differential points and a long week ahead to ponder how to improve.
