Target not enough ar Egerton cruise home

If we could start the day again, we may have done things differently, batting first may have been a mistake, certainly Egerton bowlers relished the conditions with opener Watchorn bowling 6 consecutive maidens set the standard. Having already claimed 3 wickets before an edge to the boundary ruined his figures, Watchorn continued to restrict the scoring well supported by left arm overseas Seeharan, who started with 4 maidens to put further pressure on C'thorpes batsmen.

A succession of batsmen tried and failed as Seeharen returned 4-24 in woefully small total of 114 The pitch was blamed for being too dry, so it was up to the bowlers to exploit the conditions as the pitch would only get worse.

It was not to be as Egerton top order made light work of the target, Bailey hitting a half century in quick time without really giving a chance. Glover looked to sweep and pull to knock the spinners off their length with good effect and the total was reached in just over half the allotted overs.

Was the pitch really that bad? certainly from the score box it didn't appear so, there was a small damp ridge for bowlers from the Bassett Rd end but Watchorn bowled from the other end, it may not have come on to the bat but there was nothing to suggest a total quite as small. Egerton's chase suggested the pitch was Ok and if the pitch is reported, which is the information I have received, I will be interested to read the reasons as it seemed alright for one side but not the other. Back on the horse next week in a big game against the league leaders.
