Haydens Heroics in vain

Batting first C'thorpe top order found runs getting difficult against an accurate Mountsorrel Castle attack. Wickets had fallen regularly and with the score 108 for 5 at 31 overs a score of 190 looked about as much as could be achieved, enter Hayden! Dave had just been bowled by a swinging yorker and having given the advise to Hayden expected a touch of caution form the C'thorpe alrounder! Hayden's first 2 deliveries fizzed to mid off like bullets, no runs, but he had played himself in!

Over the next ten overs mayhem took place as Hayden put together one of the most destructive innings, I have ever seen, the entire Mountsorrel attack had their figures ruined one by one as Hayden smashed to ball to the boundary with classic straight hitting and raw power. in an innings lasting just over 10 overs Hayden hit 12 "6's" and 5 fours reaching his ton in style with another huge maximum. Dan supported well as the score reached 248-6 Hayden finally departed for 106 and Dan was 33 not out as the pair added 146 for the 6th wicket.

Castle showed their intentions with the first ball of the innings being hit for 6 By the 8th over 50 was on the board with 9 fours and 2 "6's" not a single in sight! Thorpey broke through having Rosheen caught and bowling Rex, but the attacking was sustained. Farzan who had only played once all season continued the onslaught and despite Toony picking up 2 wickets kept Castle ahead of the rate.

Hayden nipped out Azhar and Ash bowled Shabaz but Farzan reached his ton and then hit a 6 and 4 to finish the game with 7 balls remaining. A great game but tinged with disappointment for C'thorpe, who can reflect on a few moments that might have changed the result.
