Matt McDonald guides run chase home

On a hot afternoon Caribbean unsurprisingly batted first after winning the toss, an early breakthrough by Waggy was the only reward with the new ball as Marlon Porter and Raavat built a fine partnership. Steady at first then increasing the impetus, both men looked in control. The 100 was reached in the 24th over and a score well in excess of 200 was a reasonable target.

Craig has shuffled the bowlers well, with the heat meaning short spells were the order of the day. Eventually Craig snared Porter as the safe hands of Muggle pouched a steepler at deep mid on. Seventh bowler Ben then trapped A. Khan and Craig bowled his dad M Khan as the Caribbean collapse started.

Ben they had Raavat caught by Kumara for a high quality 77 as the wheels really started to come off for the home side. Craig then bowled a dynamic spell of 6 overs 4 maidens 5 for 5 as Caribbean subsided to 152 all out much to the annoyance of their gathering fans. Ben's 2-14 with his leggies was also a fine spell.

Ben and Gaz started confidently putting on 46 for the first wicket, but 3 quick wickets halted progress. Kumara in the only way he knows attacked and soon had the board racing round and he was supported well by seasons debutant Matt McDonald. After a flurry of boundaries Kumara was bowled for 31 with the score on 100 Craig joined Matt and all but saw the side home, with victory in sight Singh got one to stop on Craig and he was caught for 21. Matt was growing in confidence and with 3 consecutive boundaries secured the 25 points with the help of Dan

Matt finished on a fine 31 not out, join highest run scorer in the innings, but more importantly he looked at home in first team cricket and this innings looks like a big breakthrough. An excellent win to move the team back into 3rd place just a single point behind Barwell with all to play for. Praise too for Caribbean who hosted very well and were gracious in defeat, a good day all round.
