An excellent opening partnership between Ben Sharpe (31) and Will Buckley (53) gave the middle order a platform from which they destroyed Syston's attack. Father and son Ben and Dave Tebbutt opened the bowling with accurate spin but after having a look the rate picked up with Will in particular finding the boundary. Evergreen Pete Howard accounted for Ben and Sy perished after needing a runner due to a re occurance of his hamstring problem
Sharpey senior went LBW and Will was caught off Tebbutt, which left the skipper and debutant Kumara to press on, that they did in spectacular style, 5 lost balls and the bag was empty, fielders were dispatched across the river in search with Sy finding a couple that may have been lost in the last century!!
Craig blasted 3 sixes in his 25 but Kumara stole the show with 5 maximums and 6 boundaries in a blistering 76 as the pair added 96 in 9 overs. Craig fell to a steepling leading edge only for Hayden to continue the mayhem. Kumara eventually perished for a brilliant 76 with the total well past 200
Hayden put bat to ball hitting 2 monster 6's and seven 4's in an unbeaten 46 cursing his brother for depriving him of the strike when a 50 looked on the cards and bye the way Thorpey was triggered as the umpire failed to pick up the slightest of inside edges! A score of 279 for 8 was well over par on a wicket prone to keep low and slow
Thorpey struck in his first over and again in his 4th to put a smile back on his face, Ash also took a couple of wickets as Syston's top order subsided. Toony bamboozled Clayton and Fraser, but Young Joe Hawker stole the bowling honours with 4-7 as Syston subsided to 78 all out
A high class team performance with promises a promotion battle if consistency can be found
